This past weekend my boyfriend and I went to Guadalajara. We had never been, so considering that it is the second largest city in Mexico, we figured it would be worth to pay a visit. – There are mainly three highlights from our trip that I want to share today:

1. Guadalajara´s Downtown

The ¨Centro Histórico¨ is Guadalajara´s main tourist attraction, so it was a must that we visited – and I am glad we did. Just as all Latin American cities, its downtown is completely made up of colonial buildings and plazas that tell the story of the city´s foundation and/or independence. But Guadalajara´s downtown looked somewhat special. Having visited many Latin cities, it called my attention to see so much green around. The particularly big plazas are full of trees, which besides being very convenient so visitors can catch some shadow under the sun, gives the landscape a very beautiful touch.

2. Anita Li

As I have said in previous posts, every time I go to a new city, the first thing I look for is a good restaurant. Well, Guadalajara was not the exception. We went to four restaurants, but I want to highlight one: Anita Li. What a gem! Anita Li is a fun, vivid, and colorful place that offers a variety of dishes with a mix of international and Mexican flavors. For those who visit Guadalajara and love good food, this is the place to go.

3. Tour del Tequila – Jose Cuervo

Last, but DEFINITELY not least. The tour to the Jose Cuervo factory was an awesome experience. I have to begin by saying that I almost never drink more than a glass of wine every once in a while. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t acknowledge the importance of tequila to the culture of this country and of the Jose Cuervo brand in the worldwide beverages business, so I definitely wanted to go and visit. The tour first took us to the maguey plantations where the ¨rancheros¨ (how they proudly call themselves) explained to us how to sow and harvest a maguey plant, and everything that goes on with it before they take it to the factory.

After that, the tour took us to this tiny, colorful town (magic town) called Tequila. – Yes, this is where tequilas´s certificate of origin comes from. Needless to say, Tequila lives out of it wonder drink, the tequila, and this is where one of the three factories of the Jose Cuervo brand is.

Once here, the Jose Cuervo people gave it a tour around the factory and explained the whole process of making a tequila bottle since the moment the maguey plant arrives. Oh! And for those who like tequila, they will give you some free samples!

Well, that was my short recount of my trip. Hope it inspired you guys to want to go to Guadalajara.

Hola, hola!

El fin de semana, mi novio y yo fuimos a Guadalajara. Nunca habíamos ido, así que teniendo en cuenta que es la segunda ciudad más grande de Mexico, pensamos que valdría la pena ir. Hay tres cosas del viaje que quiero resaltar:

1. El Centro Histórico

El Centro Histórico es la mayor atracción turística de la ciudad, así que ese tenía que ser nuestra primera parada. Igual que todas las demás ciudades de America Latina, el centro histórico está lleno de edificios coloniales y plazas que recuentan la historia de la fundación o independencia de la ciudad. Sin embargo, el centro de Guadalajara tiene algo especial. Luego de visitor muchas ciudades latinoamericanas, llamó mi atención ver tantos arboles que le daban un toque especialmente verde al lugar. Las particularmente grandes plazas de Guadalajara están llena de arboles y jardines, que ademas de proporcionar sombra a los visitants, le da un toque hermoso al paisaje mayormente gris.

2. Anita Li

Como les he contado previamente, cada vez que voy a una nueva ciudad lo primero que busco es el major restaurant. Guadalajara no fue la excepción. Fuimos a probar cuatro restaurantes, pero hoy quiero resaltar uno: Anita Li. Que delicia! Anita Li es un lugar divertido y colorido donde los comensales pueden disfrutar de una variedad de platos con una fusión de sabores internacionales y mexicanos. Para aquellos que van a visitor Guadalajara, este es el lugar que no puede faltar.

3. El tour del tequila – Jose Cuervo

Por último, el tour a la fábrica de Jose Cuervo fue una experiencia única. Debo empezar por decir que yo normalmente no tomo más de una copa de vino muuuuy de vez en cuando, pero eso no quiere decir que no reconozco la importancia cultural del tequila en México y de la marca Jose Cuervo para el negocio de bebidas a nivel mundial, así que definitivamente tenía que ir y conocer. Primero, el tour nos llevó a las plantaciones de maguey, donde los ¨rancheros¨ (así se hacen llamar ellos, orgullosamente!) nos explicaron cómo sembrar y cosechar una planta de maguey y todo lo que ocurre en el campo antes de que las plantas lleguen a las fábricas. Luego, el tour nos llevó a uno de los llamados ¨pueblos mágicos¨ de nombre Tequila (sip, de aquí viene la denominación de origen de la bebida). Está de más decir, que este pueblito vive del tequila y es aquí donde está una de last res fábricas de la marca Jose Cuervo. Una vez acá, nos dieron un tour por la destilería donde nos explicaron todo el proceso de hacer una botella de tequila, desde el momento en el que llega la planta de maguey a la fábrica. Ah! Y para aquellos que les gusta el tequila, también dan pruebas gratis de los diferentes tipos de la bebida!

Ese fue mi pequeño resumen sobre mi viaje. Espero que los haya inspirado a querer visitar Guadalajara!
